Summary of case: The local tribunal decision – “It was thought that the time has arrived when farmers should realise that they must do as done in France and other places, ie employ female labour on their farms in place of men of military age. The tribunal think that Michael Potter, the father of George M. Potter should be able to do quite sufficient work on his holding with female assistance and release his son.” Michael Potter considers the decision of the local tribunal to be “unjust, unfair, unequal, with other farm workers in the district.” Michael Potter farms a substantial acreage of land on which George Michael Potter is the main and only worker, Michael Potter is “aged and suffers from a lame knee and I have a deformed arm and cannot do heavy work and I also suffer greatly from Rheumatism, and I am just asking for one man”, who is indispensable to the working of the farm
