Summary of case: This is an appeal to the Central Tribunal. At the local tribunal the military representative had objected to absolute exemption. The local tribunal were satisfied regarding the conscientious objection to combatant service but not to non-combatant service. Holmes states he will do work ‘to which he felt he was called.’ When asked who was to be the judge of that work, ‘he stated that he was to be the sole judge.’ ‘This class of case has been a difficulty in the past’ and decided that the Central Tribunal should make the final decision. On 5 Jun 1916 the North Riding Appeal Tribunal refused leave [to appeal to Central Tribunal]. Case papers include a letter received from Central Tribunal dated 12 Jul 1916 [referring to their decision, which agreed with the North Riding Appeal Tribunal.]
