Summary of Case: Drake had obtained a certificate of absolute exemption from the recruiting officer in Dewsbury, where he had attested on 23 Feb 1916, whilst on holiday. The certificate was contested by the military representative at the Leyburn tribunal on the grounds that he was not a stallion man (exempted occupation) because he did not travel the stallions.
