Summary of Case: Russell was initially included in a group appeal by his employers, The York insurance Company, of York, on the grounds that all their employees were indispensable. When this appeal failed, Russell entered his own appeal on the grounds of hardship to his widowed mother and his own conscientious objection. He was brought up as a member of the Plymouth Brethren. As he lived in Liverpool but worked in York, it was a matter of convenience for all concerned to get his case transferred to be heard in Liverpool. Result unknown.
