Summary of case: An appeal was made by the appellant on 18 March 1918 for exemption due to him being the only building contractor for miles around and serious hardship if he were to go to war as being the sole owner of a one man business it would close. The North Riding Appeal Tribunal dismissed hi appeal and granted him temporary exemption to 1July 1918. In order to make another appeal against this decision the appellant had to be granted leave to appeal against the decision of the tribunal from the Director General of National service which he was granted. He also stated that the altered regulations by the Ministry of National service stated that working builders were now included in the list of certified occupations.
