Summary of Case: Thomas Mellor, father, had appealed to the local tribunal as his son worked for him on contracts carrying tarmacadam for York Corporation. At 74 he was too old to do the work himself and had had two men enlisted already. He was granted exemption “conditional on remaining in present occupation of carter, not delivering to private houses.” The military representative appealed on the grounds that it was not his usual occupation.
