Summary of case: I am a Butcher on my own account for 11 years having one shop at Staithes and one at Runswick. My rounds take me to Hinderwell, Port Mulgrave, Ellerby and Mickerly. I supply every week about 1200 customers with all kinds of meat, both cooked and uncooked. I also gather up every week six other Butcher’s Offal around the district which amount up to about 50 stone of cooked meats when cleaned and dressed. I have a considerable amount of book debts outstanding viz. about £300 I consider my business the largest of its kind in the district. I am also the Tenant of 10 acres of land 4 acres of which I have had just ploughed out the of which
Is £40. I hold this on a tenancy yearly. I am a married man with 2 children (age 5 and 3) dependant on the business and I am in sole control of the same. If I were called to the colours serious hardship would ensue. As there being no one who could efficiently carry on the business for me I should certainly have to close down.
