Therefore Holmes appeals to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal: ‘I was a journeyman Butcher for 10 years and by diligence and perseverance I became manager and buyer of the butchers department of Sowerby Bridge Co-Operative stores…..I carry on a large retail business….I have 432 people registered with me for meat rations. I also make pies, sausages and other subsidiary articles out of offal and I have about 450 extra customers for these as they do not need a meat coupon to be supplied with these articles.’
