Summary of case: In August 1917 Wood appeals stating that he served nearly 12 months in the army and was discharged as 'being no longer physically fit of war service'. He spent most of that time in hospital or convalescent home. A doctor's letter states that he is not fit for service and "if accepted, will spend more time on sick list than ever". He spends some of his nights working with the Motor Ambulance Crops, working as a dispatch rider and working in the garage and is prepared to take up any other work which the local tribunal deem to be of national importance. Wood was granted a temporary exemption to 1 January 1918. This was extended to 31 July 1918. He is appealing for a renewal of this exemption stating: ‘The circumstances are changed in that the food distribution, which he is assisting in, is much more acute, and circular letters have been issued by the Food Control Committee.’ [Case papers for NRCC/CL 9/1/4621 included with these papers.
