Summary of case: Edwin is married with two young children. His father-in-law lives with them and is a bedridden invalid. Edwin is the only person in the house capable of moving his father-in-law. He is also one of the few remaining able men at his place of employment, where he is a skilled workman and essential to the business. Edwin is also one of six brothers of military age, four of whom have joined up voluntarily. One brother has been killed, the other three have been wounded.
