Summary of case: Gains' father suffers from asthma and catarrh, his mother is an invalid. Gains is solely responsible for the running of the farm, if he were to leave, the farm would be let go, leading to serious hardship for his parents. Despite being previously categorised as A1, Gains has since had an attack of pleurisy and should be reclassified. The local tribunal granted exemption to 1 November 1918. The national service representative appealed this decision stating that Gains should be released to the army. He has not been given a voucher from the War Agricultural Committee.
