Summary of case: On 25 June 1918 the local tribunal granted a temporary exemption to 24 August 1918 as they considered this case in conjunction with those of other men employed in the same trade in the City. They were of the opinion that the appellant should transfer one of his remaining employees to the work done by this man, as they had 15 other employees. Walter West appeals this decision stating that his firm did more draining work than any other firm in the City and Mr. West was constantly employed in such work, and was essential to the business. Ward West had a wife and four children dependant on him.
