In their reasons for granting an exemption to 1 October 1918, the local tribunal stated that the fact this man was considered to be very useful in the district, as was evidenced by the appeal received by nine farmers, and also in view of his domestic position the tribunal were of the opinion that this man should have exemption. This would enable him to give his services during a harvest season. They also took into consideration the fact that his oldest son was already in the army and he was very useful to the district in catching rabbits. If the rabbits are not kept properly killed down the corn crops will be damaged. In view of the scarcity of food it is essential that as much corn as possible should be produced Supporting evidence: Yes Date and decision of North Riding Appeal Tribunal: 13 Jul 1918. Dismissed.
