Summary of case: Bell’s employer, Fawbert, applied for Bell’s exemption on the grounds that he was engaged in a large business of a boot dealer and outfitter. This work that is absolutely essential among those engaged in the mines as is well known to the members of the local tribunal, the majority of who have practical acquaintance with the requirements of the miners. It is also well known to the national service representative who was at the local tribunal meeting and it was considered absolutely inadvisable that he should be removed from an indispensable business. He has four brothers in the army. National service representative. stated that it was his contention that it is not in the national interest that this man should remain in civil employ.
