Summary of case: In his appeal to the local tribunal, Imison stated that ‘I have been in business for 17 years and could not give up the business without great loss. I am also doing work of national importance with respect to food distribution.’ The local tribunal had granted exemption to 1 December 1918 conditional on joining the Volunteer Training Corps. The national service representative appeals this decision stating: ‘Advisory Committee are of the opinion that John Richard Harland, butcher of Tholthorpe who has many domestic ties, can supply Helperby and district. C D Imison is a single man.’
