Summary of case: ‘This is the last of my three sons, two of whom have already lost their lives in the present war. One in the army and one in the navy viz: - Private Robert Wm Ryder, 4th Yorks Regt. Killed at Ypres, May 1915. Stoker Richard Rowland Ryder (HMS Natal) killed by explosion on ship on Dec 30th 1915. In view of his being employed on urgent national work and that he is now my last son and sole support claim he should be left at home under terms if proclamation above referred to. [ Military Service Act 20th April 1918]
