Summary of case: The local tribunal refused the appeal on 11 Jun 1918 stating that he is ‘not engaged on work of such public utility or necessity or national importance that he should be exempted. The only thing put forward is the repairing of washing machines and that is not enough. The employer is an old man and has already his two sons in the army.’ Vaux appealed this decision stating that he is sixty five years old and could not carry on the business without Harrison. Harrison is the only man left.
