Summary of case: ’He is engaged by Middleton & Co Ltd Chemists and a great part of his duties consist in supplying new and refitting old medicine chests for ships, refitting foreign chests with English drugs etc for the Admiralty or their agents. He has an intimate knowledge of the Board of trade requirements for this work. Often only 24 hours’ notice to refit a ship’s medicine chest is given and if it is not done promptly serious delay to the ship may arise. Our staff is already seriously depleted and our Managing Director, Mr Middleton-Taylor is away ill and has been ordered by his doctor to go to Saltburn for 2 months and do no work and it is possible that even at the end of that period he may not be fit for work.’
