Summary of case: ‘I have a farm of 470 acres including 50 acres of meadow. I have 33 head of cattle, 9 milkers, 190 ewes and lambs. Also 30 hoggs and 4 horses. The lad applied for is my youngest son and the only male I employ. I have one son in the army in India. My farm is in a high exposed position five miles from a market and station and totally unfit for either aged or female labour.’ Sunter has a certificate from the War Agriculture Executive Committee which allows him the right to appeal against his conscription, number 1274
