Summary of case: He has two of his own children and takes care of three orphan children, two brothers and one sister of his wife, ages 11, 9 and 7, whose parents died in 1917 and their only son of military age is serving in France – he is responsible for providing for all of them. His employer also has two artificial legs and he cannot manage without Copewell so if called upon the business would have to close down. He was granted temporary exemption to 1 September 1918. The national service representative appealed this decision.
