Summary of case: In his appeal to the local tribunal Hall stated that he is the tenant of a large block of buildings, has an established business as a glass and china merchant, and also has a canteen for military soldiers. He states that his wife could not ‘do any portion of what I am doing at present’. The local tribunal granted one month’s exemption without further leave to appeal. However his occupation was not considered of national importance and can be carried on by his wife and 16 & 17 year old daughters.it is also stated that there is already a military canteen and Y.M.C.A canteen in Saltburn.
