Description | North Riding appeal tribunal number: 5163 Appeal against conscription of: John Liverseed Age: 18 Address: Sexhow Grange, Swainby Occupation: Pupil teacher Local tribunal: Stokesley Rural District Council Central tribunal: No Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Military Service Act Grounds for appeal: c) education or training. Appellant: A R Williamson, National Service Representative Summary of case: In their appeal to the local tribunal his parents stated that he should be allowed temporary exemption in order for him to take his exam to become a primary teacher, which he had been preparing for over the last 2 years. The local tribunal granted an exemption to the end of July 1918 in order for Liverseed to take his exams. The national service representative disagreed with this and appealed: I contend that it is no longer in the national interest that a single man of 18 years of age and fit for grade one, should be retained in civil life. Supporting evidence: Yes Date and decision of North Riding appeal tribunal: 7 Jun 1918. No jurisdiction. |
