Summary of case: James Sleightholm is carrying on single-handed the business of joiner and wheelwright. His father died in 1915 and he is the only man in this profession for three and a half miles. The farmers are dependent on him for that line of work. He is also the sole supporter of a widowed mother and three children. His brother has already been killed by an enemy submarine.
