Summary of case: Leake said he could not manage the business without Railton and his knowledge. He had to ensure that each family on the books got exactly the right amount of meat and no more. Regarding the health grounds, Railton ‘has suffered from weeping eczema for many years and has to be careful with regard to his diet and uses a special soap.’ The local tribunal said Leake's position was no worse than many in the country and that he did not seem to realise how much the army needed young men, that Leake was being asked to put up with very little inconvenience.
