Summary of case: The local tribunal made the point that they had considered all the higher grade butchers together and granted temporary exemptions in most cases. The case seemed to relate to the possibility of streamlining their work, ‘scheme of cooperation’, but this had not transpired. The local tribunal noted that similar reasons had been put forward for Nesfield, [NRCC/CL 9/1/5083] and Duggleby, [NRCC/CL 9/1/5084], papers for both these cases missing... The local tribunal conceded that they had tried to make decisions causing the least hardship, while disturbing the distribution of food as little as possible. Thompson referred to his delicate wife, three children and the fact that he was over 40, aged 41. Also, his employee had joined up so he was a one-man business.
