Summary of case: Taylor was originally granted a temporary exemption on the 13 September 1916 subject to him remaining in his current employment and becoming a member of the Redcar Fire Brigade. A subsequent review in May 1917 by the local tribunal extended the exemption subject to him being involved in munitions work. However, the national service representative appealed against this and the certificate of exemption was withdrawn. Taylor appeals against this certificate being withdrawn as the firm he works for, Bolckow, Vaughn & Co Ltd, hold a Military Area Recruitment OfficerÂ’s exemption certificate for their employees.
