Summary of case: This appeal was against the withdrawal of certificate of exemption following a review of all the bakers in York City centre by the National Service Representative. The York City Tribunal stated that the baker’s wife would be responsible for the shop with bread etc being supplied by other bakers at a special discount rate. Bell appeals stating that his wife was fully stated to the tribunal and that his wife is in a delicate state of health and not fully occupied in looking after three children and probably four under the age of eight. The bake house which adjoins the shop and he bakes and sells over 90 stones of bread over the counter. He also supplies 400 rations weekly. If he were to go his business would suffer.
