Summary of case: First appeal 22 May 1916 heard by Easingwold Tribunal, given temporary exemption to 1 Oct 1916. Second appeal heard 13 Dec 1916: given temporary exemption to 31 July 1917, and to go before a medical board. [These two appeals submitted by S T Barnitt, but employer named as Thomas Harker.] In this appeal it is stated that that Guyll had 4 brothers already in France, one of whom was killed in action, and two sisters working in the munitions industry, and asked the tribunal to agree that this was a good record for one family. Appeal by Thomas Harker on 22 Aug 1917, also with copious detail of farm work for which Guyll was essential, extended certificate until 1 Oct 1917, and noted that he was classed A. Application dated 22 Sept 1917 extended conditional exemption as long as he continued in current occupation. On 22 Mar 1918 F E Walker, National Service Representative, appealed on the grounds that Guyll appeared to be in the habit of changing his job without adequate grounds, hindering the work of the land and production of food crops. The certificate was withdrawn and Guyll was to report on 1 June 1918. The final appeal was made by another employer, W O Pick, who gave the usual details of the work of the farm.
