Summary of case: Farms 10 acres of grass and two of arable. He sells part of his milk and also sends butter to Scarborough market. He has no-one in charge of the farm and would have to sell off if he were taken for military service. He also assists his father aged 62 who has the next farm and has no-one else to work for him. Another son has joined the army and been wounded. Gorman also helps three other neighbouring farmers who are shorthanded. He also works for Mr J H Rowntree who is at present engaged in Red cross Work in Switzerland and is the only man left to attend to Mr Rowntree’s kitchen garden and poultry.’ [See also NRCC/CL 9/1/4229]
