Summary of case: This man has full charge of one branch at Brotton where we are doing a weekly trade of over £800. He is the only man we have left in the grocery and provision dept, the rest are in the army and have been replaced by females. We are distributing a vast amount of foodstuffs in the munition area, and find great difficulty in keeping the departments going, owing to the shortage of labour. We appeal for conditional exemption.
