Summary of case: ‘I have had the misfortune to lose my wife recently. This circumstance leaves mainly dependent upon me her crippled sister, whom I clothe, in addition to making a weekly monetary allowance. I am the eldest son, and my age is 40. I have six brothers serving with the colours, two of whom are wounded, and I am the only one left out of eight sons. I make my aged mother an allowance of 10/- per week to help in her support…..I have been a member of the Volunteer Training Corps for about two years.’
