Summary of case: This man should not remain in his civil employment as a jeweller and watch repairer. Around three months ago he applied for a part time job at an engineering works and admitted he wouldn’t have done so if he hadn’t been of military age. There are three other jewellers in Northallerton. Mr Fred Pickering of Bradford is an expert on one man businesses and has addressed the tradesmen. ‘No attempt has been made to combine or organise with a view to releasing men for service. At the last Northallerton Urban Tribunal meeting there were no less than ten general service men out of 24 appealing for further exemption all being tradesmen.’
