Summary of case: ‘I am a saddler and harness maker at Guisborough and now exclusively engaged on supplying the wants of the Cleveland Mines and farmers. I am fully occupied with work of this class and can undertake no other. I have to refuse all private work. I have only this man and a one eyed man employed and I am working full time myself, being a practical saddler and harness maker. If this man goes I cannot cope with the war work I am doing and I am advised the consequences will be seriously felt in the mines for which I supply harness and do repair work. It is impossible to replace this man. Since the commencement of the war I have lost 3 men.’ [See also NRCC/CL 9/1/4628]
