Summary of case: George Agar, father of Arthur stated in his first application to the local tribunal that “Elder brother leaving home. Only one left and father who is unable to do much hard work.” In a second appeal to the local tribunal, George Agar stated “my son has taken the tenancy of Hollin Farm, and he being engaged there at present in preparing the ground for the seed etc.” The local tribunal decided that that it is expedient in the national interest that Arthur Agar should remain in his current occupation, and that serious hardship would ensue if he was called up. Craig appeals against this decision on the grounds that ”This man’s usual occupation is not that of farming. He is a butcher and inly taking on farming ostensibly to help his father….he can be well spared from working on the farm in question.”
