AE Saunders, appealed against this decision and the North Riding Appeal tribunal granted his appeal and stated that the exemption was only until 1 October 1918. Foxton then attempted to take his case to the Central Tribunal but leave was refused to do so. In his appeal to the local tribunal in February 1918 Foxton states he is registered under the Government for Officers Khaki work. He is in a one man business and if he were to join up then he would suffer serious hardship. The case was reheard and the original decision of exemption to 1 October 1918 was upheld.
