Summary of case: The appellants original appeal to the local tribunal stated, If I am called to the Colours, serious hardship will ensue as I cannot give up my house nor my land for 12 months and I do not know anyone who will take over either of these. Further there is no one I know who can carry on my business and therefore it will mean my selling up and the times are very bad for such a sale. The local tribunal refuted these claims and Griffiths then appeals to the North Riding appeals tribunal on the same grounds.
