Summary of case: The appellant was previously rejected for Service and is now classed at B3. The business which he runs is the oldest established of the kind in the town and has until recently been carried on by his mother. It has now been transferred to him and out of the proceeds she is entitled to a share for her maintenance and her 2 invalid daughters. It is a one-man business and he states that it is quite impossible for any person to carry it on for her benefit. It was the local tribunal’s opinion that the man is lame, the result of a badly broken leg. However, the National Service representative appealed stating that ‘It was not in the National Interest that he should remain whole time engaged as a Butcher, his time not being fully occupied. One butcher having returned from the Army could take over releasing another for Service.’
