Summary of case: Having been rejected by the Army in 1914 and 1915 it was decided between my brother and I that he should join the Army and I would remain to carry on his business as Chimney Sweep. Also to assist his wife in the Licensed House. ‘I was classed C3 in August 1915 and again classed C2 in July 1917. I was asked by the national service representative at Thirsk if I was willing to undertake work of national importance three days a week owing to a missunderstaning [sic] on my part I failed to grasp his meaning. I am now quite willing to undertake any such work as the tribunal may suggest; so long as I am at Home at nights to help in the Public House.’
