Summary of case: He had previously been granted exemption but on this occasion the local tribunal at Saltburn felt that his business was not important enough to warrant further exemption. The North Riding Appeal Tribunal dismissed his appeal. However, there was then a series of letters from the Chamber of Trade in Middlesbrough and others, including the applicant, objecting that the business was vital to the distribution of food in the town and arguing that the Middlesbrough rather than the Saltburn local tribunal should have heard the case. Permission was given by the Director of Recruiting for the appeal to be reheard.
