Summary of case: On his previous appeal to the local tribunal, Dickenson stated that he is taken into the army it will cause the breaking up of the 50 year business and the home. On the holding of which 21 acres are arable, he also has beasts, and looks after all of these himself. He has also been asked by the Executive War Committee to plough out 4 acres of grassland. He has a brother in the navy and a sister working as a nurse in military hospital. The National Service Representative appeals against their decision: ‘The local tribunal on 7/11/17 gave exemption til Feb 1 1918 and I ask that this exemption be made final and reduces in time if possible. There is another Butcher in Topcliffe passed C3 and the two rounds of the two overlap in many places.’
