Summary of case: Married man, wife and three children dependent on him. Eldest child has been an invalid for five years with a tubercular hip joint. She also has defective eyesight and went to Lees Eye Hospital. She had developed pneuberis ulcers, her right eye is also affected. A few months ago she developed pneumonia and is recovering slowly. ‘She is, and has been for the last five years, a great care and continual expense, and will be in the future, and if I have to give up civil employment she will be deprived of the proper support necessary for her future health. I am living in a hut on the Camp belonging to the War department, and if I have to join the Army my wife and family will be obliged to leave, and I have no other home in which to place them.’ [See also NRCC/CL 9/1/4331]
