His father is about 72 and in poor health, so unable to get about to do the work. Brown is supervising work of national importance in supplying timber for pit-props and for this and other work the local estate men are not suitable, since it requires a man of some education. Brown returned from Australia shortly before the war to help his father; one brother is in the forces and another has been medically rejected.
