Summary of case: Highly skilled making jigs and tools and the only skilled man left. The employer asks for an exemption until a replacement can be found. The Ministry of Munitions states that the firm were not doing the minimum amount of war work for the man to be entitled to a protection certificate. Smith also refused to enrol as a War Munition Volunteer which would have granted him exemption.
