Summary of case: Mudd was employed as a plate layer by a contractor on the light railway between Masham and the Leeds and Harrogate Reservoirs. The line is now used to convey troops, prisoners of war and supplies to the prisoner of war camp at Colsterdale. The military representative considered that the work done by Mudd, classed A1, could be done by a man of a lesser category or over 41 years of age and that he was not convinced that Mudd spent all his time on plate laying.
