Summary of case: Military representative wanted certificate reviewed as he considered that a man passed as A1 should not continue in civil life as a canteen manager. The local tribunal withdrew Jackson’s certificate of absolute exemption and a temporary exemption was granted to 1 Dec 1917 without right of further application. Jackson was canteen manager at the Prisoner of War camp at Colsterdale, Masham. Employer considered him indispensable and was unable to find a man suitable to replace him. Jackson writes that he was unaware that his case was coming before the tribunal on 9 Nov 1917 and thus considered he was not able to appeal on domestic grounds. His wife was 4 months pregnant with their third child. Clerk replied to his letter that Jackson's wife's condition was not sufficient grounds to grant exemption.
