Summary of case: In the original application, 17 Sep 1917 to the local tribunal made by Grange's manager, he was granted 3 month's exemption. The National Service Representative appealed against this decision on 5 October 1917, and asks for leave to bring the case before the Central Tribunal on the grounds that the man was passed fit for General Service, is under the age of 31 and not in a certified occupation. He therefore comes under the instruction contained in R.114. The North Riding Appeal Tribunal were not disposed to grant leave as no question of principle was involved but enquired whether there were grounds for a rehearing. The National Service Representative replied that he thought it was a point of principle and if not granted leave to appeal to the Central Tribunal then to have the case reheard by the North Riding Appeal Tribunal who decided there were no grounds to grant leave to appeal to the Central Tribunal or to rehear the case at present.
