TitleWWI Appeal Tribunal papers: Herbert Clark
DescriptionNorth Riding appeal tribunal number: 4396
Appeal against conscription of: Herbert Clark
Age: 36
Address: 61 Wykeham Street, Scarborough
Occupation: Bread Maker
Local tribunal: Scarborough Borough Council
Central tribunal: No
Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Attested
Grounds for appeal: e) exempt occupation
Appellant: Herbert Clark
Summary of case: The appellant claims exemption on being in a certified occupation and ill health. The local tribunal reviewed the requirements of the trade and was of the opinion that the Co-operative Society's Bakery was over-staffed in comparison with other bakeries. The health grounds are not sufficient to justify exemption. Although in a certificated occupation it is not necessary that Clarke should remain in civil employment.
