Summary of case: On 27July 1917 local tribunal granted exemption to 23 Oct 1917. The military appeal to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal dismissed but the man to take up work of national importance to be approved by the appeal tribunal. Mr Proctor explains that he wrote to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal's clerk asking if his intended work as secretary to Guisborough Urban District Council Food Control Committees would warrant a continuation of his exemption and a further letter 24 August 1917, confirming that they accept as satisfying the condition imposed on granting exemption.
