On the 22 September 1917 he appeared at the local tribunal regarding his certificate. He is the managing director of a wholesale and retail ironmongery business, with 15 years experience. He supplies fine tools for agriculture and engineering. In addition he holds Class A and B permits for agriculture and munitions and supplies £500 per annum of goods directly under government control for munitions. He is the only man with the practical knowledge to do repairs. The local tribunal gave exemption to 1 January 1918, and stated the part played by this man is very large being the only practical man and the work too is important from a national point of view.
