Summary of case: 18 Aug 1917 Proom’s appeal to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal was originally dismissed. However, 13 October 1917 Proom asked for his case to be reheard. It was and he was given a conditional exemption whilst employed as a Divisional Engineer under the N R W A. On 11 October 1917 the Military Representative wrote to Richard Booth Esq, Machinery Officer on the War Agricultural Executive Committee at County Hall, Northallerton stating: ‘An application for conditional exemption will not be opposed provided that you give an undertaking similar to that suggested in para 2 of your letter (ie) that you will immediately notify this Recruiting Office as soon as Mr Proom ceases to be employed as Engineer in charge of tractors.’ [Papers for NRCC/CL 9/1/4101 are filed with this case]
